一年前にイギリスから一人旅でやってきて三か月日本をまわっていたLoisは、小柄で活発な女の子で、伊勢神宮で買ったというヒノキの木目のご朱印帳には沢山の神社仏閣のスタンプや書があって、私はびっくりしてしまいました。他のゲスト達と楽しそうに帝釈天を散策していた時、フラワーアレンジメントのインスピレーションを得るために日本に来たという言葉が印象的で、彼女の作品はどんなものなのだろうとずっと思っていました。 Lois, who traveled Japan for three months from England a year ago, is a petite and active girl, and she had many stamps of Shinto shrines and temples in the red stamp book of the cypress that she bought at Ise Jingu. コロナウィルスのことで心配で少し前に彼女にGメールを送って安否確認をしたとき、私がご朱印帳とフラワーアレンジメントのことをよく覚えていると書いたら、返事のメールに彼女の花屋さんの仕事のサイトや、日本旅行した時のビデオを添付してくれました。それを見て驚いたのは、彼女の才能とバイタリティと仕事の範囲の広いこと、ロックダウンの今でもお花の需要はあるのですが、依頼者の顔を見ないで花を作るのは自分にとってストレスだと書き添えてありました。When I sent her a G-mail to confirm her safety a little while ago because I was worried about the coronavirus, I added that I remember the red stamp book and flower arrangement well. In her reply, she attached a video of her work site and a trip to Japan. Loisをホストして思っていたことですが、私がみんなの写真を撮る時他のゲスト達のようにポーズとったりしながら自分をいかにきれいに可愛くしようとすることがなくて、その代わり対象物に対して向き合う姿勢がいつも真剣で、彼女はクリエイターだと強く感じたのです。そういえばイギリスのゲストは独特の国民性があって、頑固でもなくこだわりでもないのですが、簡単に同調しない、我が道を行く的なところがあることを思いだしました。（結構それで今まで苦労してきました）When I took a picture of everyone,she didn't try to make her cute while posing like other guests, and she always had a serious attitude towards the object, so I strongly felt that she was a creator. Speaking of which, British guests have a unique national character and are neither obstinate nor obsessed, but they do not easily agree and have their own thoughts.
単なる花屋さんではなくイギリスの自然や経済のこともしっかり考えて仕事をしているところは日本人と違うと感心するけれど、彼女が作った日本旅行のビデオ見ているとやはり若い女の子で、招き猫や鳥居やお好み焼きなど出てきてこういうものに魅かれるのかとおかしくなってしまいました。日本に又来たい、日本が恋しいというゲストが多いのだけれど、私も彼女たちから随分影響を受けていて、家じゅうの花瓶や一輪挿しに外の花や草を挿して、茶花のように活けていろいろな空間に置いているのは、Loisの作品をみて以来だし、今度会う機会があったら茶道の花の空間や花器の由来などの話もしてみたいと思っています。I am impressed that the fact that she is not just a florist and is working with British nature and economy in mind is different from Japanese, but when I watch the video of her trip to Japan she is a young girl. She was fascinated by such things as Maneki Neko, Torii and Okonomiyaki. There are many guests who want to come back to Japan or miss Japan, but I am also influenced by them so much that I put flowers and grass in vases all over the house since I saw Lois' works. I would like to talk about the space of tea ceremony flowers and the origin of vase when I have a chance to meet her again.
